My 4DTV will just shut down (power down) and will not power up back from the front button or the remote (tried pulling the AC cord and putting back no go) but will come back on in a hour or so I have a UPS connected to it after I notice this happening a week ago but it did not help.
Can anyone help me??

Start disconnecting things from the back panel and see what happens, possibly start by disconnecting the LNB coaxes.

Then plug it directly into the wall socket and see what happens.

It sounds like the power supply is bad.

One more question is there an upgrade to the new 922 models if so at what price and is it available from a dealer or GI??

The 922 Specific area is loaded with messages concerning GI's trade in offer. I doubt that a dealer would be willing to offer a trade in for a unit that is displaying the problems that your unit has.

There is a possibility that your problem is caused by bad solder joints, but I do think that the power supply is the problem.

Is your unit in an area where it can get plenty of ventilation?

1-800-679-0330 is the number for the GI upgrade offer. The deadline was 2/15/01 for this offer, but it has been extended indefinitely.

If your unit is a 920 then when ths problem happens then wiggle the AC Cord where it plugs into the back of unit,I believe you need to check for a shakey soft solder job on the inside (needs new solder job) where power plug plugs into it at back of unit.

A shaky soft solder job appears to be my problem as well. My 920 has identical problems to yours. Swapping AC cables didn't help. But bending the cord down where it goes into the back makes the front panel light up. I took the cover off, detached the UHF F connector and see where the power connector black plastic is glued to the board.

Do I need to take the whole board out to get at the solder joints? Maybe I should leave this to an expert instead of trying to do it myself?

Thanks for any suggestions.
