Still coming in here; authorization status U.

Only thing I've noticed recently is the addition of commercial breaks in the movies. Plus occasional long-form infomercials.

If you visit their web site

http://www.bmania.tv/

the "How To Get B-Mania" menu says

"Video Providers, B Mania is available 24 hours a day nationally through the OlympuSAT Digital Platform on Telstar 7 Transponder 22 DigiCipher II

For 4DTV owners - T-7 Channel 800 (Not Encrypted, Free)

T-7 (Telstar 7 @ 129 degrees west) Trans. 22, vertical,
DigiCipher II, VCT 546, channel 101 = Encrypted"

Perhaps Mark can explain how the signal can be both "not encrypted" and "encrypted". Some sort of distinction between the consumer and commercial data streams?

Bottom line: I don't understand their statement, but I am getting the channel.

I checked it a few minutes ago. Auth status = U.

In this instance a 905/920/922 should be able to receive it if the unit is authorized by the G.I. authorization center. A 921 should not be receiving it.

Possibly if the receiver got it's authorization renewed all would be OK.

The U mode refers to Universal Access (UA), which is an encrypted mode, but 4DTV receivers get it for free because they are all automatically authorized for the UA bit (bit 255) once authorized for at least one service.  This is quite similar to how free previews were done in VideoCipher.  Technically, it isn't "Not Encrypted" like the page says, but it acts like it because it doesn't require a specific authorization.  It's important to note that only U.S. 4DTV receivers will be able to get anything in Universal Access mode.

I thought once there were a few rare feeds that are U status that can only be viewed with a StarChoice receiver that has been authorized by the SC auth center.

Funny, after I posted and was proof-reading, I considered this, but decided to leave it as is and only elaborate if asked.  So, thanks for asking.

The Universal Access bit acts just like any other bit, but it has been specifically designated for free previews.  All receivers authorized by their authorization center get the bit and can receive any channels in U(A) mode in their respective universe.  Your respective universe is defined by the EMM provider, which is defined by which authorization center controls your unit.  As far as I know, there are only three consumer EMM providers (4DTV, H2H, and SC).
