There have been many messages posted asking for comparisons between the 4DTV models so this thread is being created to discuss the differences and similarities

The pages in the links below have some info on most models of 4DTV

http://www.bigdish.info/

-------------

920/921

  • These models have identical hardware. The 920 is the U.S. 4DTV and only can subscribe to U.S. DigiCipher II programming. The 921 is the Canadian model and can only subscribe to StarChoice Canadian (DigiCipherII) programming. Both receive DigiCipher II FTA channels
  • No S-Video output on analog channels
  • Receives MCPC DigiCipher II only (Service rate must be 19510 or 29270)
  • No S/PDIF output
  • No baseband output
  • UHF and IR remote compatible
  • One set of RCA composite outputs
  • IPG initially displays at the current time and current channel
  • Both have an internal VCII+/VCRS slot
  • Compatible with HDD200 or HDD 201
  • Receives both analog and DigiCipher II channels

922

  • S-Video works on both analog and digital channels
  • Receives both SCPC and MCPC DigiCipher II
  • Has S/PDIF output
  • Has baseband output
  • UHF and IR remote compatible
  • Two sets of RCA composite outputs (One adjustable volume, the other fixed volume)
  • IPG initially displays 30 minutes offset from current time and usually one channel offset from current channel
  • Has an internal VCII+/VCRS slot
  • Compatible with HDD200 or HDD 201
  • Receives both analog and DigiCipher II channels

905 - Digital Sidecar (Addon for analog receivers)

  • No S-Video output
  • Receives both SCPC and MCPC DigiCipher II
  • No S/PDIF output
  • No baseband output
  • The remote that ships with the 905 has UHF and IR capability, but the 905 itself is IR only.
  • Two sets of RCA composite outputs (Both fixed volume)
  • IPG initially displays 30 minutes offset from current time and usually one channel offset from current channel
  • No internal VCII+/VCRS slot, this receiver is used in conjunction with an analog IRD. The IRD should have its own a VideoCipher slot
  • Compatible with HDD200 or HDD 201
  • Will receive DigiCipher II channels only (no analog). The 905's IPG does contain listings for analog channels.

The 905 and 922 have 25 timers. The 920 and 921 have 5 timers. The next version of the 920/921 firmware should have 25 timers. No date can be given on when to expect this firmware update.

All models are compatible with the remote controls that ship with the other receivers. The 905 remote has an analog/digital mode button that does not exist on the remotes that ship with the other models.

Manuals for these receivers are available online at:

1. S/PDIF Connection -  Allows encoded material to be played as stereo or decoded by a Dolby® Brand Pro-Logic® surround sound processor for AC-3®, 5.1 channel sound.

2. Multimedia Access Port (MMAP) - The MMAP is primarily designed to allow you to receive high definition channels via the HDD-200. The MMAP connection can also allow your 4DTV receiver to adapt to a compatible computer and future technology.

3. S-Video Connection - S-Video output is active on all channels, both digital and analog, and is effective at reducing "dot crawl" and other picture anomalies.

4. Baseband Video Connection - Allows for the connection of external baseband accessories and stand alone descramblers.

5. Motor Terminals - Actuator terminals

6. Dual Audio/Video Outputs - Gold plated connectors. One set fixed, one set variable.

7. LNB - C and Ku connections

8. TV/RF - Antenna in and out to TV.

9. TelCo - Telephone line
