Hello All-

I faced the same problem that you’re facing. The UHF remote stopped working, while the IR continued to work. Some time back, however, I had printed off a copy of a note from one of our own (HZIMM) who had detailed the fix for this process. His outline of the repair procedure was previously transmitted as message number 25 of this thread. But the day that Mr. 4DTV responded to me on this issue, that message was deleted.

When I inquired, Mr. 4DTV said that GI would compensate an authorized GI dealer to perform a field modification to fix this problem. I contacted my dealer and asked if he’d schedule a call for me to make this fix. He told me that he’d not been advised of the fix for this problem and had previously pulled his customer’s receivers and sent them in to GI for warranty repair (I was his fourth repair for this problem). I said that I’d downloaded a procedure, but that GI wanted an authorized dealer to perform it or the original warranty would be voided. He agreed to come out to the house to see what he could do.

After reading over the procedure that I gave him, he opened up the 4DTV, removed the UHF section cover, made the modification, and verified that it worked ….. all within about ten minutes. Since then the UHF has worked fine. He was very grateful to me, as well, because he’d been providing a spare 4DTV (out of his own pocket) to his customers while their units were sent to GI for modification.

So, here’s the procedure that was documented originally in message #25 (later deleted by someone). Pay attention to the caveat about voiding the warranty if you attempt the mod yourself. I’d strongly encourage you to call your dealer and have them make the mod.

1. Remove power to the unit.
2. Remove the cover.
3. Carefully remove the cover on the UHF can (little metal box where the UHF connects).
4. Locate the two small coils on the circuit board.
5. CAREFULLY with an INSULATED NON-METALLIC tool spread the windings around 1/64” of an inch.
6. Re-apply power.
7. Test your remote.
8. Repeat #5 until remote works with adequate range.
9. Remove power and reassemble.

***Doing the above will, most likely, VOID your warranty***
