I finally broke down and bought a 4DTV receiver. Can anybody tell me what might be causing this problem? I am getting horizontal lines that roll upward for a few seconds and then roll down. These lines are on both digital channels as well as analog. I reinstalled my old TRX-2220 and it works fine. Reinstalled the 4DTV receiver and their back again. These lines show up only when the unit is on. I have turned off all electrical motors, fans, etc., but they are still there. I love everything else about this receiver, except those lines. |

Could be a ground loop some place. How do you have your 4DTV connected to you A/V equipment. Are you using a Sony TV by any chance? |

I think it has something to do with the receiver's
shielding. I changed out all my connection cables (including RF and
composite video) with all new RG6/U cables, and that solved the problem
for me.

There has been some discussion in this forum about a problem inside the receiver where one of the circuit boards (power supply, if I recall correctly) not always being screwed down tightly, and this causes ground loop problems, like those you are experiencing. hth, Tom |

Thanks for the response. It is a Sony TV that this is hooked up to (Model #KV-35S40). I followed the 4DTV installation guide wich shows the following: 4DTV Sony TV I know that Sony's have some type of raster scan conflict, and even went as far as hooking it up to a Samsung wich produced the same problem. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. |

The reason I asked about the Sony is that I have an
identical problem on my Sony, but haven't seen it on other monitors
I've tried. Unfortunately I also see the same problem with my DSS
receivers.
I was sure it was a ground loop some place and isolated everything I could including the power. Some things seem to help a little, but I still have the problem. I do have one suggestion, remove the coax from the 4DTV TV- Out and the connect your TV directly to your TV antenna, cable box, whatever. It really doesn't buy you any thing since you are piping the A/V signals to the TV via the baseband connection, and I have found that to be a problem in the past. Also, if you do try it again with another monitor, make sure either all connections to the Sony are removed or at least make sure it is not pluged into the AC outlet. This will eliminate the Sony as a source of ground loops. Some TV's use a line filter that will raise the chassis above ground enough to have current flowing in the shielding of attached cables. |

Thank You TRANSPAC... You "Nailed" it! I disconnected the Sony and the picture on the Samsung TV became clean as ice. I will experiment some more. But for now I am using the video 2 on the Sony. I am super happy with the picture, but will have to figure out a different audio hookup arrangement for the stereo receiver. Thanks Again |
