I currently have a 7.6 foot dish in the field that only gets about 18 to 19 quality on G1 transponder 18.Sometimes when the quality drops to about 14 or 15 you can go out and lift up on the dish and it goes back up to 19 but the quality consistently hangs in the 15 to 17 range. While dish theory states that the mount should be moved slightly to the west when pulling up on the dish if you slightly move the mount you lower the quality on these feeds.Normally, you can cheat the elevation just a tad to compensate for moving the mount but the quality does not seem to respond. Does anybody have any suggestions because the dish tracks the rest of the arc fine.

I had trouble too before with the HBO channels on that transponder 18 and I just went into options and adjusted the skew and also clicked the dish left or right and then it made a big improvement and it made the picture come in good after I did that.

Greetings:

I had similar problems with G1 HBO/MAX, especially the then mountain feeds. More problems surfaced for digi. channels on C3 and G9. I tried everything there is to try indoors by myself, and nothing seems to work, and so I called in a expect tech., who came equipped with an instrument that actually shows you when the signal is at its best, and it worked! Not only do I receive better signals for c-band, but improved signals for ku as well, except for X7-200, 620.

Good luck
R

Those two,X7-200,LMN and X7-620,Toon Disney do seem really hard to receive. Sometimes I can get a picture there but most of the time, not.

That's strange, I have a 7.5 foot dish and 17 degree LNB and my quality on both these channels is around 65. Maybe it's the location, I live PA.

Hello Kim,

They both correspond to analog transponder #22, which does not provide any quality signal. I hope 4dtv reps. will follow-up with LMN and ensure that we get the signals.

IT's there, weakest of the bunch.
Q of 22 vs. a Q of 70 on other Xponders

I don't think it's necessarily a problem with TCI (LMN doesn't uplink the signal, TCI/AT&T does as a part of their HITS or Headend In The Sky package) uplinking improperly. Some channels are just harder to receive than others for whatever reason.

Witness the G1 HBO Comedy, Zone and HDTV feeds. The other HBO's can come in fine, but these will be unreceivable in many cases! In my case, it was a misbuilt dish, and then a misaligned feedhorn with a new dish. Tweak and peak your dish, make sure everything is EXACTLY right.

So many factors can hamper your reception. Partial obstruction of the sky can do it, terrestrial interference can wreak havoc (I'm not sure how that affects Ku), cabling can go bad, old or unstable LNB's can cause MANY problems with digital. Also, depending on where you are within the satellite footprint you might need a larger dish.

I live in South Texas and get a signal of 68 and quality of 80 on most X7 transponders. The lowest is LMN at 64/55.

As far as getting TCI/AT&T to fix reception problems? They authorize these services as part of a free preview to 4DTV users and AFAIK don't receive any revenue. I'm sure all cable affiliates receive X7 just fine, IMHO they'd be more likely to just turn it off than fix it for a few hundred BUD users.

I live in PA and last year after I got my 4d,I had to have a local dealer come into realign my dish so I could receive the digital HBOs on G1. I probably would have kept him for my dealer, but he told me that I didn't need ku band and he didn't know much about my 4d but at least he realigned my dish good. I can say that.

Some transponders are weaker than others, and this is the reason some channels are more difficult to receive. As HBO will tell you, a properly tuned dish will have no problems receiving these transponders. In other words, it's not their problem to solve. I'm sure AT&T/TCI would agree with that statement.
