My 4dtv has been acting more peculiar than usual lately. It has started rebooting itself. Five times in the last two days it has rebooted itself while I was watching various analog and digital channels. All of a sudden the picture goes black and everything on the front panel lights up and then the warm up comes on and eventually the channel I was watching reappears. It's the same as unplugging and replugging. Anyone experiencing this? Any ideas as to what might be causing it?

Try pushing in the plug in the back of the receiver.. If that gets loose it may cause it to reboot...
That is all I could think of...

Another possibility is over heating. Rebooting has been reported in some units installed in unventilated cabinets where heat could build up. Moving the unit out of the cabinet or installing a ventilation fan fixed it.

I'm not saying this IS the cause in this situation. Just something to consider.

ERGENT NOTICE

GI had a production Lot of 4DTV's that went out that had bad solder on the internal AC (where the power cord connects at back of receiver),it will keep arking and the problem you discibe is the results(this possiably could cause a Fire,Stop useing it).

I had one of these units (and you have one too),you need to take it in to a Gi Authorized Service Center or call Gi for a RA Number and ship it to them for repair (do not fix yourself because once you open the caseing up you Void the Warranty,(I repeat this problem can cause a Fire if you keep useing it like it is).

Once Gi resolders the internal AC Connection the problem will not come back.

There was a time I had three 4dtv's in the same room (it's a long story), I was constantly changing the address of the remote to control the various receivers, and I noticed one of the units would reboot when I hit the mute remote key. Once I got all the remotes set up and each address established the problem went away. Or at least it has for the past couple of weeks.

I don't know if there was some undocumented command the remote sent or it was a coincidence.

Regards,

i'm sorry to say i had this similar problem. fortunately i was able to return the unit, even though it was past the 30 days and received a new unit. i've had absolutely no problems since that time.

I had that problem too last month when I re-installed my 4D in this new location. I blaim it on not giving the unit enough time to properly d/l the channel maps. At the same time, I had screwed the channel maps up by visiting A2. I did a master reset and reinstalled all birds and have avoided A2.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I think I have determined what the problem is/was. Airplanes flying between the dish and the satellite on occasion cause a brief loss of signal. Usually when this happens the video and audio go off for a second and then reappear. Apparently my software got corrupted and caused a reboot everytime the signal was disrupted. Pulling the plug and replugging on G9 seems to have solved the problem.

Your problem is that you lost Power to your Receiver!
The Internal AC soldered connection, where your units Power Cord plugs into the rear of receiver has lost solder and connection is lost.

Make sure you get in wrighting from your dealer that he is a Authorized GI Service Tech if he is going to open up the caseing of the 4DTV,because if he isn't this will void your Warranty.

It is all ways to be on the safe side then be sorry!!!.

Not all Dealers that sell 4DTV are GI Authorized,
