4DTV Hidden Menus

There are two different hidden screens that are part of the 4DTV system. If you are not sure of what these screens are and what they can do please stop here. Do not attempt to change any of the values in these screens! There are no controls here which will affect the viewability of any channels, these are diagnostic screens only. Again, if you are not sure of what you are doing with these screens are please DO NOT CONTINUE. There are screens described below that WILL reset the memory and authorization status of your IRD rendering the system inoperable until it is reprogrammed. By sharing this information our intention is to educate the advanced hobbyist to allow a greater understanding of the functions of the 4DTV IRD and greater enjoyment of satellite DXing.

1. To access System Reset Screens, press Options*6* and then 7-7-8 in sequence. You will see the screen below...

The first option on this screen will allow the user to temporarily set manual frequency...

Please note that changes made on this screen will be lost when the unit is powered down.

Selecting Option #2 will bring up a color bar pattern which is useful for testing video quality and setting up the monitor. You will also hear a test tone to verify input levels and quality.

4. Selecting #7 will prompt you for a "Factory Reset"

This screen is useful if you need to totally reprogram your system. You may need to do this if you replace the actuator arm or move the IRD from one system to another. Sometimes, if the system fails in some way, doing a factory reset will "reboot" the unit's basic instructions allowing normal operation to resume. Think of this in the same way as "rebooting" a computer. Prior to initial installation all units should be factory reset.

2. To access the system status screens, press OPTIONS, 6 ("System Settings"), and then zero. This screen will present you with 5 choices...

Selecting #1 will provide you with the following screen...

1. DISPLAY VIRTUAL CHANNEL MAPS -- Displays one record from the Virtual Channel Table VCT plus some other semi-interesting stuff.

Selecting #2 will provide you with the following screen...

Use the "Up" and "Down" arrow keys to scroll through the data.

2. DISPLAY SATELLITE INFORMATION TABLE -- Displays Satellite Information Table (SIT) and Transponder Data Table (TDT) information.

Selecting #3 will provide you with the following screen...

3. DISPLAY CARRIER DEFINITION LIST -- Displays Carrier Definition Table (CDT) contents.

Selecting #4 will provide you with the following screen...

4. DISPLAY MODULATION MODE LIST -- Displays Modulation Mode (MMT) contents.

Selecting #5 will provide you with access to the Digicipher Diagnostic Screens...

5. DIGICIPHER(r) DIAGNOSTICS ÷ Diagnostic data regarding the received signal

  1. Diagnostics
  2. Diagnostics Data

Diagnostic Data screens are developed by Firmware during implementation according to the needs of the system. All values update as required unless otherwise noted. Information about these screens is described here for documentation purposes only.

Hexadecimal numbers are displayed with none or more leading zeros (0) to pad to their individual field width. Decimal numbers are right-justified in their individual display rectangle and are not padded with leading zeros (0). In addition, decimal numbers may be displayed without or with a trailing decimal point to distinguish them from hexadecimal numbers. The default is no trailing decimal point. The display of the trailing decimal point (.) is enabled and disabled by the press of the ENTER key when no digit keys have been previously pressed. This setting is retained when the screen is exited. The ENTER key is used after one or two digit key presses to terminate direct channel entry and tune to the specified channel. Note that three digits will self-terminate and tune to the specified channel.

Channel number is always displayed in decimal format and will never have a trailing decimal point.

Certain features are Not Yet Implemented for this release. These items are marked with 'NYI.'

  3. Tagging Screens with Help Key
  4. All the diagnostic screens (except Minimal Diagnostic) can be tagged.

To tag a screen, navigate to the screen and press the HELP key on the remote (bottom left). An asterisk will appear to the right of the Diagnostic title. From any other screen the HELP key will then yank to the tagged diagnostic screen.

To clear the tag, press the HELP key while the tagged screen is up (on any other screen, press the HELP key twice). This will also yank to the normal Help Screen. The GOBACK key can be used to return quickly to the previously tagged diagnostic screen.

The help tag is also cleared by an IRD reset.

  5. Products with GUI
  6. For products with GUI, keys work in the following manner:

The LEFT & RIGHT keys, from either the front panel or remote, will change to the previous or next screen respectively. The last screen wraps to the first and the first wraps to the last.

GO_BACK will exit the diagnostic screen to the menu from which it was called.

Channel changes take place upon entry of the CHANNEL_UP, CHANNEL_DOWN and LAST_CHANNEL keys as well as direct channel entry via the DIGIT keys.

The UP and DOWN keys, from either the front panel or remote, are used by each screen. This usage is explained in each screen section.

Each of the diagnostic routines uses the BUY & INFO keys for a particular purpose. This function is explained in each screen section.
